Tigers lost to the Brewer 1-0. Jim Slaton hurled a compete game for Milwaukee. Ray Bare started for Detroit. John Hiller relieved in the 7th and got the loss. 48,612 fans witnessed the action. Time of game: 1:57!!!

    Back in that era I rarely missed an opening day. You couldn't but those bleacher seats in advance - so there was a throng of us crammed in that corner waiting for the gates to open. I never liked the lower deck. About that time streaking was rampant, you could always count on a couple of streakers in the bleachers. One drunk weas unable to streak so he took off his clothes and sat there
