Suspended Game

Just wondering what everyone thinks of the current suspended game. The rules I grew up with, the score would have reverted back to the end of the 5th inning, which was the last completed inning. When is the rule change? or are they making it up as they go? That being said, I do agree with the decision, it would be a heck of a way for the Rays to lose a game and the series due to the rain. The game should have never been started to begin with. Rollins looked ridiculous on that wind-blown pop up. Whacha thinking?

  1. Agreed on all counts.
    1. Selig is an idiot. I lived in Milwaukee the strike year, and wrote him a letter saying "don't let this happpen." He at least had the courtesy to write back, but said "We must." Idiot.
    2. The game should not have been started. People could have been hurt. They were trying to please FOX.
Your'e right Chuck, under the old rules, the Phillies would have won a rain-shortened game, and the series. Acording to the news reports I read, they changed the rule a few years ago for the series, and exactly this situation. But as a PR man I agree, it LOOKED like they were making it up as they went along.

  2. Every time I see or hear Bud Selig I'm reminded of a quote from the late great Bill Veeck: "Baseball must be a great game to survive the people who run it."

  3. Here's a thought:
Just make the president of Fox or NBC the commissioner. The job is up for bid with the television contract.
Sounds outrageous, I know. But think about it: he would want to put on the best show possible. Obviously, Bud had his head up his a-- and didn't think that way Monday about 6 p.m.
A TV commissioner would not want to put on anything less than a great show, and he certainly doesn't want a superstar ending a career by tearing up a knee in leftfield lake.
As Veck pointed out long ago, this is a business, not religion. Let's get real. (Note to self: Time to re-read "Veck as in Wreck" the man's autobiography, which I read about 40 years ago.)

  4. I have often wonbdered about Selig. He got the job when he was still an owner -- talk about conflict of interest. And now he has the job without ownership. But let's face it Milwaukee comes first. Is ther not another peson in this country besides soomebody with FOX or NBC who would be better qualified to be commisioner? How does Selig get replaced? Can we start a recall?
