Today's Free Press has an interesting story about Jose Feliciano singing the anthem before Game 5 of the '68 WS -- a game my mom attended.

Wow. Couldn't Mom, know thing nutsy baseball fan you were, have let you have the ticket?
ReplyDelete(I was deeply hurt when my brother got a ticket to the series and he took my Dad. Brother explained, "Hey, after all the ball games the old man has taken us to?..."
Mom went down to Michigan & Trumbull the day WS tix went on sale, stood in line, and got two tickets (max allowed, I think, or most she could afford) to games 3, 4 & 5. I went to game 3 (on Saturday) w/ one of my sisters. We sat in the lower deck bleachers out beyond the flagpole in CF. Earl Wilson started and the Tigers lost. Two of my other sisters went to game 4 on Sunday, when McLain lost in a game that should have been called because of rain. Game 5was Monday so we were in school. Mom went with, if memory serves, a friend of my sisters who was able to get out of school.
ReplyDeleteAlso regarding Jose's version of the anthem, I thought it was different but took no offense. I didn't understand what all the fuss was about.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite version of the anthem is the one Marvin Gaye performed before an NBA all star game.
