will be 3, 4 and 5 starters according to our poll, but allow me to make a prediction. With Bonderman's recent soreness, and Porcello's outstanding showings, Porcello will zoom to the #3 spot. Restrict him to 90 pitches or so, lots of rest, but baby, it's time.
If Dontrelle can get his control, look for him to start, while Bonderman works it out. Having too many good starters is the least of our worries. I just wouldn't have young Porcello mess up his head throwing middle relief. Disagreements?
Don't rush Porcello -- he has a whole career ahead of him Be patient. The same thing with Perry out of the pen. Look at Zumaya and Verlander - nuff said.
ReplyDeleteVerlander and Zumaya were rookies in 2006. The Tigers went to the World Series that year and Verlander and Zumaya were two big reasons why. Leyland says that he will take talent over experiance. If they are the best we have then they should be pitching.
ReplyDeleteI agree, but the point I was trying to make is that niether of them has been the same ever since. Zumaya has been injured more than he pitched. Andrew MIller (one of Miggy's favorites) also couldbe an example of this. We'll never know if their performance has suffered because they were rushed or if they were not the pitcher we thought. At this point, I hope and pray that Verlander and Zumaya (and MIller) perform as they had been projected to. We need them.
ReplyDeleteZumaya first hurt his arm playing to much Guitar hero, and hasn't been the same.
ReplyDeleteVerlander hasn't exactly bombed. Just lost a mph or two off his fastball. Hard to say if that's a bad arm, or just more careful.
Hard to pin it on getting thrown to young.
Besides, what's the difference in throwing 150 innings in Toledo or Comerica?
After the "great" performances by Robertson and Willis today, those three look like the best bet for the bottom of the rotation
ReplyDeleteDidn't we trade Andrew Miller to the Marlins in the Cabrera/Willis deal?
ReplyDeleteI agree: no need to rush Porcello. He looked good often here last season for the Flying Tigers but has not thrown a lot of innings.
ReplyDeleteYes, Tom. The Tigers traded Miller, Maybin and Robello to the Marlins in the Cabrera/Willis deal.
ReplyDeleteAnd it looks like Maybin will start in CF this year for the Florida fish.
