Time for some changes

The season is 1/4 over, and things are not getting better. I propose two moves. Let's "discuss." (Argue, since we're all getting a little edgy.) First, let's scarf up some free agent meat. Namely, former Astros ace Roy Oswalt. In the last two seasons he's done OK with the Astros, then the Phils. Sure, he's 35, (I wouldn't sign him beyond this season) but he knows how to win, and it wouldn't hurt to have a guy like that as a fifth starter/long reliever. Wouldn't hurt the kids on the pitching staff to be exposed to his mind, either. The Red Sox, Rangers and Phils are looking at him; let's move! Second, it's time to shake things up. Maybe a trade, a big trade. Trouble is, what do we need more, pitching or hitting. Ya'll know I've long been a proponent of pitching, but our hitters ain't getting it done either. ?
Or maybe it's time to show Leyland the door. We've given you the talent for years now. You've given us nothing more than division flags. Considering the talent you have on this squad, it's just not enough. What say ye?

"it’s very simple. jimmy’s gotta go. they, these very well paid kittens, are not inspired. love the guy, for sure, anyone with grey hair and smokes is good in my book, but, let’s face it. that tub’o lard coaching 3rd and geezer on the bench just is not inspiring to me. just look at the body language in any post game interviews. I swear there’s gotta be an ems vehicle parked outside the park with a 6 pack of oxygen, just waiting for jimmy to wheeze one last time and bang, there you go. honest, I love the man. he has his heart and head in the right place, I just think most of these guys need a kick in the ass and jimmy might just be wearing hush puppies instead of steel toed wolverine boots these days. Tommy at first always has been a personal favorite but he is not calling the shots. and frankly, brookens was an contributor, not a leader when he played. again, love the guy, but, let’s see. we have a 3 run lead in say the 6th, say the starter has done his job, and bang, relief is nowhere. Or, we have a starter giving up maybe 2 runs, we can’t do jack with the gazillion in payroll. all that hype. all that preseason confirmation. and this nightmare valverde and no tell dotel scare the shit out of me every time jimmy pulls the trigger and puts them out there on the bump. I say trade for gibby. the guy hates 110 degrees in the summer.
Cleveland, the twinkies, seattle? come on already. these should be snacks."

  2. Now that you mention it, isn't there some precedent for trading managers? Didn't Tigers do such a deal in the late 50's? Jimmie Dykes to Cleveland for Joe Gordon or something?

  3. After 21 seasons as a big league manager, Jim Leyland's record is 1608-1609 - so he is not even a .500 manager. Our team certainly is not playing motivating baseball. So if we are trading managers -I will trade Leyland for Kirk Gibson. All i know is that we are stinking and are 6 games out of first with all that talent. Love the speed of the new guy in center.

  4. Whither Jackson? He's only one of the league leaders?

  5. NO NO I still like Jackson, but it's nice to see some speed.
