It's just not as much fun these days...

Getting up early to look for baseball scores on-line or in the paper, checking TV listings to see if our guys are on tonight, or holding my breath over scores from Chicago or Minnesota. It just doesn't seem like as much fun now that we've virtually locked up a division flag.

Maybe Yankee fans haven't had it as good as it seems.

Maybe I'm just in a funk over Ernie.

  1. Gregg, the pessimist in me says the Tigers have not yet locked up a division flag. (Although it would take a Mets-style collapse for Detroit to fail to win the AL Central.)

  2. Tom - you beat me to the punch, but didn't the Mets have a seven game lead with 17 left? Also, didn't the Tigers collapse going into the last two weeks of '06? Granted, they had the wild card to fall back on, but the wild card will not be coming from the Central this year.

  4. Speaking of playoffs, Gregg's has us facing the Angels but won't we play the Yankees? Unless rules have changed, the wild card winner can't play a team from its division. WIth the wild card winner likely to be the Red Sox, they'd play the Angels and we'd play the Yankees, right?

  5. Oops. (as usual.) I didn't know the rules prevent Wild Card winners playing a team in it's own division. O.K., amend the question to read "second round" or "advance to ALCS
