Granted, I wasn't feeling so good myself. (Remember, at the outset of the season, I said the Tigers would end up four games under .500. I was close.) But I think the Sox and the Twins don't have much going for them either.
But I have changed my vote in this week's poll. Boston (not California as posted) will kill us in the first series.

Boston? As I understand the rules, if Boston wins the wild card they can't play a team in their division in the first round so Boston would face the Angels and the Tigers would face the Yankees.
ReplyDeleteAccording to about.com/baseball, the team with the best record plays the wild card team, unless as Tom points out, the wild card and best record cannot come from the same division. Then the wild card plays the second best team. Detroit will face the Yankees in the first round.
ReplyDeleteThis is what we should plan for: Justin Verlander vs. C.C. Sabathia in Game 1 at Yankee Stadium.
ReplyDeleteO.K. guys, I stand corrected. The Yankees (or the Sox) will trounce us. We just don't have the horses.
ReplyDeleteIn a short series anything is possible. The Tigers have done much better than anyone gave them credti for. Even though this last week was a disaster, we still have a nice lead in first place. I know we are in a weak division, but that is where Detroit happens to be located and 1st place is 1st place. I hope we fool everyone - especially Gregg. Leyland has done a good job manipuluating his horses. Verlander, Jackson, and Porcello is a pretty good starting threesome in the playoffs. DON'T GIVE UP GUYS. Die hard fan vs. realism??
ReplyDeleteI am with Jeff. Verlander versus Sabathia in Game 1 is going to be huge at Yankee Stadium. The key to the series will be Jackson. They need a big game out of him, because Porcello is going to be the wild card in this whole deal. Tigers in 5.
