McLain's one change that would gurantee a division title

Denny is still at it.  All the local sports guys were talking about Denny's proclamation about one change that would turn the Tigers around.  He feels that Cabrera is a natural hitter that will give you the same numbers wherever he bats in the lineup.  Prince needs some help. (His 3 run blast last night was a welcomed sight.)  So Denny would switch Prince and make him bat 3 and Miggy and let him bat cleanup - thus making the pitchers give something better to Prince to hit.  Denny figures it will raise Prince's average 15 points.  Whatcha think??

  1. Maybe, maybe not. One reason for the current order is to "protect" Miggy, force the pitchers to pitch to him, and it's worked. Young has been hot of late, behind Prince, so I don't think Fielder can claim they are pitching around him. At some point, you just have to stand up for yourself, and Prince ain't doin' too bad. The problem in the order is not in the 3, 4 or 5 slots. It's 7, 8 and 9.

  2. I agree, Gregg. And Fielder has a .305 BA, which ain't too shabby. But average isn't everything: he leads the team w/ a .403 OBP and has a .518 slugging percentage. (Cabrera has a .590 slugging percentage.) The other problem, besides 7-8-9 hitting is defense, especially in the infield.
