Do you daydream...

that you're part of the ground crew at old Tiger Stadium when you cut the grass? (I'll admit it, I do.)I even keep a few tomatoes in the bullpen like they did.

It's 1968, and I'm Herbie Redmond.

My nightmare would be to be on the ground crew when the Lions played on the same turf!

OK, I'm certifiably nuts.

  1. Cute story about Herbie.
He was walking out to his benchnext to the bullpen and hew waved my son over. (joe is now 30, this must have been 25 years ago). Herbie reached in his back pocket and tossed a ball to Joe. Joe thought Herbie wanted to play catch - Herbie was trying to not be obvious, but Joe threw it back to Herbie. Herbie was upset. We were shocked - when herbie tossed it a second time - I grabbed it and put it in my pocket for Joe. Where is that ball now?
Story #2. I have the original record from the Year of the Tiger. Signed by Al Kaline, Ernie Harwell, and Herbie. Herbie's signature is the X.
