Jose Valverde

Hey we got a closer!! Sounds great. I am not that familiar with him because he is is the National League, but his stats look great. After Roller Coaster Jones and Roller Coaster Rodney - we need a strong closer. I am excited. Of course in January I am always excited. Other observations .....

  1. The Tigers, as I said before, are going to surprise a few people this year. Their pitching is ridiculous. If they can sign a decent left handed bat they will be in the race into September. Minnesota has no idea how that outdoor park is going to play, and remember, they just offered Jarrod Washburn to become one of their starters.

Spring Training is only 34 days away and I am excited!!! It will be a very interesting year, especially with all of these kids. I can't wait to get to Florida to see Jacob Turner and Casey Crosby. Remember those names.

I love the Valverde move. He is a solid closer and they gave up nothing for him. Some people are concerned about the 1st round pick, but the Tigers sign beyond the recommendations, so some great player will fall to them in the supplemental phase and also on the second round.

  2. Love Valverde. The Tigers didn't sign Rodney because they didn't trust him as their closer over the long haul. He just wasn't worth the money. And they couldn't promise Lyon that he would close, so he left town, too. Valverde is a strikeout guy and he's also emotional, and I like guys like that (Jose Lima comes to mind). It should be fun watching this guy pitch -- a lot more fun than watching (or trying to watch) Jones or Rodney.

  4. I think we did th eright thing letting Rodney and Lyon walk. You can always get a closer, as we proved by signing Valverde.
