I posed this question as a comment to my last Hall of Fame post, but no one offered an opinion. So I'll try again...
Does anyone out there have a problem with the HUGE percentage gap between Barry Larkin and Alan Trammell? Why do so many people think Larkin belongs but Trammell doesn't?
I have my theories, but I don't want to influence anyone's opinion. I'd be curious to hear what you think.
Only 35 days until the first spring training workout for Tigers' pitchers/catchers! Let's talk baseball!

NOt sure if I can answer why. Couple of thoughts -- Trammell played in small market Detroit and was so quiet that he did not gain the noteriety that Larkin did. Subsequent to his playing career, Trammell did not have a good managerial career. I know that is not suppossed to make a difference, but can all the voters separate the two? Compare Whitaker's numbers to Joe MOrgan's - yet Whitacker will never make the Hall. I believe MOrris will not make it until the Old Timer's vote because of his arrogance and attitude with writers.
ReplyDeleteGo Tigers!!
If Detroit is a small market then Cinci is a miniscule market. Perhaps Tram got overlooked in the shadow of slugging shortstops like Miguel Tejada and Ripken? And he wasn't flashy defensively like Ozzie Smith or Omar Vizquel. I believe both Tram and Larkin deserve the HOF.
ReplyDeleteTram is not getting in because he lacks that "star quality" he wasn't part of the "Big Red Machine" didn't win many World Series rings, wasn't as flashy as Ozzie. He just came to work every day, and did great work. A blue-collar shortstop, which is why us Detroit blue collars and sons of blue collars love him. He deserves to be in there.
ReplyDeleteLarkin, while a Red, never played for the real Big Red Machine.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, as a former University of Michigan player, he likely bleeds blue. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteThat's right. He played for UM. Upon further review I say he does NOT belong in the HOF.
ReplyDeleteWell, I can't slip anything past you guys! (Actually it's my early onset Alzheimer's showing. Tell you what, to try to atone, I'll start our preseason polls.
