Verlander and arbitration
OK guys so how much does Justin get? He filed for abitration on Friday. One of the cruelest parts of the arbitration (how do you spell that word?) process is when the team tries to justify why not to pay out the big bucks. Justin has been The Tiger for a few years and now Dumbrowski has to argue as to why not to give him a hefty raise. I always feel that does more harm than good. Depending on how it is worded, you end up downgrading your star. A delicate situation for sure. He deserves a long term contratc for sure.

Agreed. Verlander is one of the building blocks in any plan. Keep him happy at all costs. Valverde is nice, but you can't build a winner around a bullpen.
ReplyDelete(BTW-you're spelling on arbitration is fine. Contract has has 2 t's though:)
Yes pay him what he wants and keep him happy so he keeps winning.
ReplyDeleteFelix Hernandez just signed with the Mariners for $80 million over 5 years. Considering he's three years younger than Verlander, I think $70-75 million over 5 years will get it done for the Tigers' ace -- and it's worth every penny.
ReplyDeletePay the man!!! He deserves it. Don't alienate him so that he will not negotiate a long term deal. Don't make the same mistake that they made with Jack Morris and Lance Parrish.
ReplyDeleteI'm still stinging from those, too! And Gibby leaving for the Dodgers... Ug.
